The World Affairs Council of St. Louis presented the “International Humanitarian of the Year” honor to SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN – ST. LOUIS® at its 4th Annual Awards Gala celebration, Thursday, June 19, 2014, Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis. The evening included a cocktail reception followed by the awards dinner. The program featured inspiring stories and videos highlighting the work of Shriners Hospitals for Children – St. Louis, concluding with the award presentation.
The purpose of the International Humanitarian of the Year award is recognizing individual(s) or organization(s) from the St. Louis Region for their significant contributions to the solution of a global humanitarian issue. Every child, no matter where he/she lives, deserves access to good medical care. This belief forms the core of Shriners Hospital for Children. Children around the world are suffering and enduring lives compromised by disabilities which only advanced medical care can treat, if available.
Shriners Hospital opens its doors to children from the U.S. and abroad who have nowhere else to turn. These kids are given new life and new hope through the healing hands of the talented physicians, nurses and staff at Shriners Hospital.
Theodore D. Dearing, Chairman of the Board of Governors, and Dr. Perry Schoenecker, Chief of Staff, Shriners Hospitals for Children-St. Louis, accepted the award on behalf of the physicians, nurses, staff, and volunteers. They emphasized the stories illustrated represent the transforming work performed by the doctors and staff daily to ensure medical care for children who deserve it, no matter where they live.
KSDK “Today in St. Louis” Anchor Pat McGonigle served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies. Tickets for the 4th Annual “International Humanitarian of the Year” Gala cost $250 per person ($100 of each ticket is tax-deductible).
