Stray Rescue St. Louis’ Dog Days of Summer took place at The Moonrise Hotel in University City, Sunday September 14, 2014 from noon to 4:00 PM.  The Moonrise is located at 6177 Delmar Boulevard in Saint Louis. 100 percent of ticket sales went to benefit Stray Rescue St. Louis, a no-kill shelter in downtown St. Louis, Missouri.

Tickets cost $35 per person and provided entry for a guest and pet plus two adult beverages and hors d’ oeuvres.  Each patron received a doggie bag of surprises. The dogs had a kiddie or, in this case, doggie pool to keep cool. The pets also enjoyed moon and star shaped pet friendly cookies.

Stray Rescue’s mission leads the way towards making St. Louis a compassionate city where every companion animal knows health, comfort, and affection, and no stray is euthanized merely because he or she has been abandoned, abused, or neglected. As part of its mission, Stray Rescue sets out on the streets daily taking a progressive, proactive approach to establishing a permanent resolution to the stray companion animal problem through dedicated rescue efforts, sheltering, community outreach programs, education, collaborations, and the encouragement of responsible pet guardianship.

Virtually all of the pets it saves have been abused and neglected. They have been dumped on highways or remote country roads. Abandoned in public parks, empty houses and dark alleys. It even has saved dogs left chained behind buildings after their owners had relocated.

Rescued animals often make the best pets. Pets from Stray Rescue seem to understand that they have a second lease on life. In return for a little affection and attention, these remarkable animals reward their new owners with a love and loyalty unmatched anywhere.
