St. Louis Blues 14 Fund’s Casino Night

The St. Louis Blues 14 Fund celebrated Mad Men, tie-dyes, and everything sixties at its annual Casino Night, Wednesday, January 29, 2013, at the Scottrade Center. More than 300 guests returned to the “sixties” and joined the Blues for a primo evening full of casino games, live music, food, brewskis, and martinis.Through ticket sales, sponsorships, plus the live and silent auctions, the Casino Night raised over $100,000 for charity.

Scottrade Center created a hip ambience. Blues players wore “Mad Men” suits and hats, and in some cases, some wild ‘n crazy checked houndstooth outfits that would have pleased Rodney Dangerfield. “Album covers” greeted guests as they arrived, and the stage lighting provided the proper florescence to the mod environment.

Following dinner and a live auction, Blues players served as celebrity dealers at poker, blackjack and roulette tables. Fans attending the event received $5,000 in Blues Bucks to gamble with, and after nearly two hours at the Mad Men Casino, converted their winnings into raffle tickets to compete for Blues prizes, including a team-autographed jersey and a Club Level suite to a game.

Saint Louis Original restaurants once again assembled a fab potpourri of foods to partake. Guests also could participate in silent and live auctions. Items comprised autographed jerseys, game-used equipment, autographed canvases, pucks, a three-day trip to Salt Lake City and an upcoming road trip on the team charter.

Some “Twisted” and “Shouted” on the dance floor, rocking to the sounds of the Charles Glenn Band. Other laid back and hung loose in the Draper Lounge.

Whatever the preference, the night belonged to the St. Louis area children that will benefit from the funds produced. The Blues 14 Fund, the charitable trust of the St. Louis Blues, was established in 1998 to honor former Blues forward Doug Wickenheiser, #14, who passed away from a long battle with cancer in early 1999. Since its inception, the Fund has contributed more than $3 million to youth in the St. Louis community, including cancer care and awareness, health and wellness, education, and youth hockey development.

No bummers, bad trips, or jive here! The party had the guests “feeling groovy”, but the mission goes “far out” and well beyond!
