The Friends of St. Andrew’s hosted the 4th Annual Derby Brunch, Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the World’s Fair Pavilion, Forest Park. Guests came attired in their finest hats and Derby inspired apparel. The balmy, sunny weather complimented the delectable brunch prepared by a collection of local caterers and private clubs. A special panel of judges not only rated the most creative hat and best hat but also the “Best in Show-Main Dish” and “Best in Show-Dessert”. All proceeds benefited low income seniors served by St. Andrew’s.

Besides excellent brunch selections and appropriate Derby libations (Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, Mint Juleps, wine, beer, and appropriately named signature cocktails), courtesy of Spirits of St. Louis (distilled and bottled by Square One Brewery & Distillery), guests could find several diversions like the silent auction, family and group photos from Life at Play, carriage rides through the park, an Aerial “Silks” Acrobat (Lilly Steele), fortune tellers, a caricaturist, a juggling magician, and a balloon raffle. The $75 admission ticket included all the culinary treats and beverages.

The hat competition has become a big part of the event. The hat judges, Joe Holleman, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Trish Muyco-Tobin, Ladue News, had another challenging time selecting from a stunning array of millinery, but the judge herself had a very stylish one. Naturally, she could not ,qualify. The culinary judges, John Carney, KTRS, Suzanne Corbett, Food Historian and Travel Writer, and “Favazz”, KSHE 95, had an equally difficult time deciding the epicurean winners.

The following caterers and private clubs created the cuisine:

Tenacious Eats
Companion Bakery
Salt & Smoke
Juniper
Salume Beddu
Marcoot Jersey Creamery
Missouri Athletic Club
Katie’s Pizza & Pasta
1904 Steakhouse at River City Casino
Ronnoco Handcrafted Coffee

Serendipity Handmade Ice Cream

For over 50 years, St. Andrew’s Resources for Seniors System, a not for profit organization, has proven the place where seniors, their families and caregivers find answers. Whether it involves occasional help that allows a senior to remain independent at home, a comfortable retirement residence that feels like home, or an assisted living or skilled nursing facility, St. Andrew’s can provide whatever someone needs. Thanks to donations to the Charitable Foundation, it can assist seniors at all income levels. St. Andrews helps them find and access the support they need and, most important, helps them Worry Less.
