In its 12th year, St. Andrew’s Ageless Remarkable Saint Louisans celebrated the vitality, spirit and incredible professional and volunteer contributions of 19 amazing St. Louis regional seniors over the age of 75. With varying backgrounds, talents and passions that would put most 40-year-olds to shame, the honorees defy the stereotypical idea that individuals fall into restful retirement as they grow older.

The signature event, held at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch, Sunday, November 9, 2014, also serves as the primary fundraising event for St. Andrew’s and its Charitable Foundation. Since its inception, the gala has generated over $1.8 million, which St. Andrew’s has used to enhance the lives of seniors through a wide-range of programs and services and extend financial aid to area residents who have exhausted their resources.

Besides the honorary video presentations, the 2014 committee introduced each senior to open this year’s dinner. The event chairs, Alan E. Brainerd and Nan and Rich Klassen, recognized the group, assembled on stage, to a rousing ovation. The Class of 2014 included:

Ann Bannes
Don Beimdiek
Pat Britt
Mattie Davis
Elsie Freeman
Cynthia Frohlichstein
Judith Garfinkel
Paul Greenlaw
Anna Harris
Harry Hope
Larry Lemke

For the fourth consecutive year, Marvin Wool, an honoree from the first Ageless class, and his wife Harlene, initiated a special challenge match in support of St. Andrew’s, in which they matched contributions from event guest dollar for dollar, up to $50,000. The guests and donors matched the challenge, raising an additional $111,000 for St. Andrew’s. Since 2011, the challenge grant has generated over $400,000.

The evening ended on a high note with Ol’ Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra’s version of “Young at Heart”, which sent everyone home in a sentimental mood.

Attracting over 650 attendees, the event comprises one of Saint Louis’ largest and most significant benefits, and the funds it produces enables St. Andrew’s to serve over 8,700 people and raise more than $1.5 million for charitable care annually.
