Ruth’s Chris Steak House-Downtown at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch hosted an “Over the Edge St. Louis” kick-off Wine Tasting Reception, Friday, October 2, 2015. The event benefited Special Olympics, which presented its 2nd Annual “Over the Edge St. Louis” rappelling competition down the side of the hotel Saturday, October 3.

To get everyone in the spirit, mood or adventure, the wine tasting occurred the night before the “competition”. Tickets cost $50 per person, and 40 percent of ticket sales went to Special Olympics. In addition, guests could participate in a silent auction. Of course, nothing prepares an athlete more than sampling over 30 wines by Glazer’s featured, including such brand names as – Grgich Hills, Jordan, Duckhorn, Far Niente, Silver Oak, Heitz, and Artemis – along with sumptuous, signature Ruth’s Chris hors d’oeurvres like Kobe Beef Sliders, Chicken skewers, crab cakes, shrimp voodoo, bruschetta and assorted mini desserts.

“Over the Edge”, a friendly competition, raises awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Those who participate are known as “Edgers” who rappel down a building, and in this case, rappelled down the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch. The program is run by “Over the Edge USA”, which provides experienced safety techs offering training and assistance with each Edger.

Participants are required to have reached at least 14 years old and weigh 100 or more pounds to rappel.
