Queeny Park’s Fall Art Fair Opening Night

The Greater St. Louis Artist Association held its annual Queeny Park Art Fair, Friday, August 29 through Sunday, August 31, 2014. For the first time, the  Association honored six of the very top leading live artists for their body of work, their commitment to the arts and for what they have done to promote and raise the stature of working artists in the region.

Celebration of these artists began Fridaym 6:30 PM, with a presentation of the awards and continued at 7:00 PM.with a meet-and-greet for the public during which time the artists autographed copies of their books or prints. The honorees included Bryan Hayes, painter; Gary Lucy, painter; Billyo O’Donnell, plein air artist; Jim Trotter, photographer: Harry Weber, sculptor and Don Wiegand, sculptor.

Event highlights:

  • Wine tastings by Three Squirrels Winery each day
  • Live music by the Ann Duren Trio all weekend.
  • The Opportunity to win $150 in “art dollars” that could be spent at any artist’s booth.
  • The popular Art Discovery Adventure for children from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, including a hands on Art Wall, Make and Take pottery demonstrations and carved egg shell demonstrations for children and adults.
  • A refreshment café serving meals and snacks during show hours.

The fair cost $5 to enter, 18 and under free. Tickets remained valid for all three days of the Art Fair at Queeny Park.

Proceeds from the $5 admission and the artists’ booth fees benefit the GSLAA Art Scholarship Fund and help to cover show expenses. St. Louis area high school seniors may apply for the art education scholarship, which is sent directly to the college of his or her choice. The four winners will have their work displayed at the spring show. Additional donations for the scholarship fund are welcomed at the admission gate.
