Wings of Hope hosted its annual fall dinner/dance, “On the Road to the Wings of Hope”, at its corporate headquarters, Saturday, October 11, 2014. The event, deriving its theme from the Bob Hope, Bing Crosby “On the Road” movies made famous in the 1940’s, celebrated the numerous volunteers, supporters, and sponsors who make a difference in bringing peace and hope to St. Louis and around the world.
Bob and Delores Hope, proud members of WOH’s original honorary council, would have thanked the group for the memories. The eighteen piece Gateway City Big Band, featuring vocalists Whitaker Varley and Karen Sharp, played many songs from the “On the Road” movies. The 200 guests also partaked of a world-wide culinary adventure, prepared by Doug Clements, president, Laura Helling, director of development, and Anne Volland, director of administration. Besides global foods, big band dancing, and joviality, two Nepalese dancers performed a traditional routine.
