Nurses for Newborns Foundation hosted its 2nd Annual Bucking for Babies, Thursday, August 20, 2015, at PBR Ballpark Village St. Louis. Guests saddled up to see if their boots felt big enough to ride. Teams formed to help support the babies. Everyone could chose whether to challenge the bull or just watch from the sidelines.
Donations could go to existing teams or fan-favorite riders: $25 donation = 1 week of services for a baby; $100 donation = 1 month of services for a baby; $1,200 donation = 1 year of services for a baby. The entry fee cost only $15.00 and included a food buffet and 1/2 price drinks.
Along with the mechanical bull competition, Nick Richardson, acoustic guitarist from St. Louis, performed for the crowd. Nick plays around town and also in Nashville. At the end of the night, prizes went to the top 3 teams or individuals that rounded up the largest accumulated donations.
For those with a hankering for the west, you could don your best jeans and boots and dare to ride the bull. Or, you simply could take in the western scenery. If you missed it, start practicing for next year, “pardner”.
NURSES FOR NEWBORNS FOUNDATION (NFNF)
Nurses for Newborn’s mission is providing a safety net for families most at risk; to help prevent infant mortality, child abuse and neglect through home based programs that offer education, healthcare and positive parenting skills. Nurses for Newborns Foundation was founded in 1991. It became a 501(c)3 organization in 1992.
The nurse homevisiting agency has programs that serve teen moms, moms that are challenged mentally or physically, infants that suffer illness, and general population families in need. Besides the medical component of its programs, it assists families in getting connected with any additional medical, social or government services they may require. A donation bank with clothes, toys, diapers, blankets, car seats, baby beds and formula is maintained for the families that have a need. The donations come from community baby showers, school groups, formula companies, churches and individuals.
