Little Bit Foundation’s Join the Journey
The Little Bit Foundation hosted its signature event, “Join the Journey”, on the evening of Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Edward Jones headquarters, Des Peres, Missouri. The annual gala, Little Bit’s largest fundraiser, featured a live auction of destination packages, a silent auction of student-inspired artwork, musical entertainment and dinner. KSDK NewsChannel 5’s Heidi Glaus served as this year’s mistress of ceremonies.
“We have come so far in our 12 years in the St. Louis area, currently serving 4,300 disadvantaged students in 16 elementary and middle schools,” observed Rosemary Hanley, co-founder and Executive Director of The Little Bit Foundation. “But, with 42% of children in St. Louis city living at or below the poverty line, we have much further to go. “Join the Journey” marks a time to celebrate all of the loving people focused on our vision of breaking down barriers to a child’s education, while ensuring we can continue to spread this vision and reach more children in need.”
The oral auction focused on diverse destination packages from a trip to Atlanta and Napa Valley to Missouri Farms or St. Louis on the town. The entertainment spotlighted a phenomenal reception performance by Mariah Broeker, an inspiring musical act from Confluence Academy-Old Choir North, and dancing to Get Down Bella. The event attracted 350 guests and raised $210,000 to benefit Little Bit Foundation.
Founded in 2001, The Little Bit Foundation (www.thelittlebitfoundation.org) works to provide for the basic needs of disadvantaged children in the St. Louis area by partnering with local schools. The organization serves 4,300 students in 16 St. Louis area schools and, in the 2012-2013 school year, distributed over 101,000 essential items. Its presence in the schools, working one-on-one with each child, combined with providing necessities, such as clothing, undergarments, shoes, coats, hygiene kits and emergency food items, creates a positive impact for personal growth, increases self-esteem and encourages a more focused, active learning environment.
