Food Outreach’s Main Ingredient

Food Outreach honored its dedicated supporters at a special celebration, Main Ingredient, Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Wells Fargo Advisors Learning Center Atrium. The evening, emceed by KSDK NewsChannel 5’s Kelly Jackson, featured a cocktail reception, sit-down dinner, a performance by the Wells Fargo Chorus, and an awards presentation.  Uniquely designed aprons, donated by area creatives and artists, were displayed and available for bid, with proceeds benefitting Food Outreach.

Several of St. Louis’ beloved artists, personalities, and leaders designed aprons showcasing their talent and/or their organization. The effort resulted in the Artsy Apron Auction, spotlighting some truly creative smocks. Everyone from Mayor Slay to renowned artist Charlie Houska put their talent on display. Guests could place their bid, and the winners took home unique pieces of art.

A special committee selected the 2013 honorees with the official announcement coming at the Main Ingredient reception and dinner. This year’s winners included:

The Main Ingredient Awards allow us to honor organizations and individuals whose compassion and generosity have impacted the lives of those most vulnerable in our community.  Without their support, our clients would face the unthinkable — coping with hunger while battling a life-threatening illness.”

Established in 1988, Food Outreach continues as the only nonprofit organization in greater St. Louis area that focuses on providing nutritional support to low-income men, women and children battling a life-threatening illness, specifically cancer or HIV/AIDS.  Through a combination of freshly prepared nutritious meals, groceries, nutrition counseling and education, Food Outreach clients have the ability to maintain their strength, cope with side effects and optimize their treatments.

In 2012, Food Outreach provided 508,054 nutritious meals to clients living in 174 Missouri and Illinois zip codes.
