Five Acres Animal Shelter has a mission is to end pet homelessness, promote responsible pet ownership, and advocate for animal welfare. Five Acres comprises the only no-kill animal shelter in St. Charles County, Missouri. It does NOT euthanize its animals to make room for new ones – the dogs and cats in its care stay as long as needed until they find their forever home. It only humanely euthanizes when a situation arises that an animal can no longer live a high quality of life, according to our vet, based on its medical state or a rare case of extreme aggression.

The majority of the animals come from private citizens who have become unable to keep their pets for one reason or another, and Five Acres loves and cares for them until another family is found for them to join.  It also works to transfer animals from overcrowded shelters to save companion animals scheduled for euthanasia.
