Discover/Rediscovered In St. Louis, an art gallery opening, took place at Union Station St. Louis, Thursday October 29. 2015.  This private event commemorated the restoration and permanent re-installment of “Commerce on the Landing” in Union Station’s Grand Hall. The accompanying gallery exhibit runs from October 29, 2015 through December 4, 2015 at the Kodner Gallery, Union Station, 1820 Market Street. in St Louis, MO.

Local art patrons came for the unveiling and showcase of “Commerce on the Landing” plus the other formidable pieces on display. The night featured live music from Erica Johnson and Eric Slaughter and the exclusive chance to view some amazing works, of art by two very talented artists, Irek Szelag and Louis Grell.

“Commerce on the Landing”, originally commissioned by Louis Grell in 1942 as part of of the World War II renovation, went above the curved ticket counter. It depicts the Eads Bridge, Mississippi, 2 mighty steam boats, and an old fashioned steam engine on the riverfront during the 1880’s. It officially was unveiled in June 1942. The mural was later rediscovered, March 2014, and restored by artist and art conservator Irek Szelag during a $466 million renovation of the hotel and terminal.
