Commerce Bank of St. Louis hosted its annual Saint Louis Art Fair Preview Party in its Clayton branch lobby, Friday, September 11, 2015. The Bank, a valued sponsor of the Saint Louis Art Fair, officially has kicked off the St. Louis Art Fair with this event for nearly 20 years. Prominent bank clients, art fair supporters, sponsors and political dignitaries mixed and mingled over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres provided by Butler’s Pantry.
David Kemper, chairman and chief executive officer of Commerce Banchares, Inc., welcomed the guests and then turned the brief program over to Commerce Bank of St. Louis’ new president and chief operating officer, Bob Homes, and Clayton Mayor
Harold Sanger.
The art fair, produced by Cultural Festivals, featured the works of approximately 150 artists from around the globe, including several notable metropolitan St. Louis area artists. Juried artists’ creations were exhibited and offered for sale in outdoor booths. Different nonprofit organizations also participated with several running the Cultural Information
Booths.
Unlike some recent past fairs, pleasant weather ensued the entire weekend, allowing thousands of people to enjoy the fifty-four performances on three stages, various street acts, artists demonstrations, performance art, and various children’s activities. Attendees also could find cuisine prepared by fifteen of St. Louis’ top restaurants.
Commerce Bank traces its roots back to 1865 when Francis Reid Long came to Kansas City with $10,000 capital and started a bank, the Kansas City Savings Association. By 1890, the bank, then named the National Bank of Commerce, became the
