Boys Hope Girls Hope of St. Louis recently celebrated its 20th Annual Evening of Hope, one of the most important evenings of the year for the organization, October 23, 2015, at the Palladium Saint Louis. The night annually demonstrates the support that both St. Louis individuals and corporations have for the mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope.
The affair kicked off with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before guests sat down to a delicious dinner provided by Butler’s Pantry. Board President Bernie Schweiss began the program with a warm welcome before BHGH Executive Director Deacon Farrelly presented the Awards.
The evening honored two very important members of the Boys Hope Girls Hope family. Lisa Flavin, the Chief Compliance Officer and Vice President- Audit at Emerson Electric Co., received the Heart of Hope Award. Trudy Busch Valentine, an involved supporter for almost two decades, has served as an Honorary Committee member and also participated with many local organizations. This year BHGH honored her with the Father Sheridan Reflection of Hope Award.
Keynote speaker Debra Johnson, a BHGH alumna, gave a very empowering and moving speech about her past and the way BHGH helped her succeed academically, becoming the strong, successful woman that she emboides today. She now serves as Communications Director in the U.S. House of Representatives for an Illinois Member. She also teaches a women’s leadership course to build young women’s self-confidence.
Master of Ceremonies Mark Zinn initiated the oral auction led by auctioneer Ron Kirby. The evening concluded with a scotch tasting, cigars and musical entertainment provided by Jim Manley & Randy Bahr Jazz Duo.
