129th Veiled Prophet Ball

The 129th Annual Veiled Prophet (V.P.) Ball took place Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch , where a new “Queen of Love and Beauty” was crowned, and a record 77 young women were honored for their service to the community and made their formal entrance into society.

More than 2,000 friends and family members looked on as the Veiled Prophet crowned as his Queen, Miss Katherine Falk Desloge, daughter of Ann and Stephen Desloge. The retiring queen was Miss Margaret Frances Schnuck, daughter of  Mr. and Mrs. Todd R. Schnuck.

Miss Desloge graduated from Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School and currently is enrolled at the University of Richmond, where she was recruited to play tennis and is majoring in English/creative writing and communications..

In addition, six Special Maids also were honored: Miss Mary Elizabeth Abbott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Stevens; Miss Audrey Angus Imbs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Christopher Imbs; Miss Bentley Carroll Boldt, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. James C. Boldt; Miss Paton Elizabeth Nix, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Nix, Jr.; Miss Elizabeth Caroline Fox, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Jeff Fox; and Miss Georgia McClintock Macon, daughter of Mr.and Mrs.William H. Macon, Jr.

The Veiled Prophet tradition in St. Louis dates back to 1878. Each December, the Veiled Prophet Ball serves as a venue for introducing young ladies, generally in their sophomore year of college, to the St. Louis Community.

This past summer, the 77 young women being honored at the Ball contributed over 1,000 hours as volunteers to the following community-based service organizations:

  • Beyond Housing
  • Food Outreach
  • Operation Brightside
  • Rainbow Village
  • Gateway 180
  • Northside Community School
  • Marian Middle School
  • YWCA
  • U.S. Vets
  • U.S. Red Cross

Since its founding in 1878, the Veiled Prophet Organization’s mission has focused on making significant economic and civic contributions for the benefit of the Saint Louis area. Its members provide financial support and leadership for various community projects and not-for-profit agencies through the Veiled Prophet Foundation. The Foundation coordinates and focuses the resources of the V.P. in a continuing, sustainable effort to enrich the quality of life for all who call St. Louis home, engaging in civic projects that provide a permanent benefit to the St. Louis Community.

The Veiled Prophet Organization is known best for producing two of the region’s most high-profile events: the annual VP Parade, one of the oldest and finest parades in the nation (now in its 136th year), and Fair St. Louis (now in its 32nd year since its founding as the VP Fair in 1981). These events have attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors and millions of dollars of economic activity to downtown Saint Louis.

In 2014, the V.P. Parade and Fair Saint Louis move to Forest Park, as part of the City’s 250th Anniversary Celebration.
